Tarmac Driveway Benefits for Derby Homeowners

Durability

Tarmac will reliably last 15–20 years without any issues or maintenance - it is also very straightforward to refurbish after that period to make it look brand new again.

Maintenance-Free

Although sealing and cleaning is often recommended for maximal durability, it is not essential with a tarmacadam surface. A simple power wash every year will be enough to keep it in good condition for 15–20 years, before looking at resurfacing.

Affordability

With it being such a readily available product, tarmac is often more affordable compared to some other premium, more complex surfaces. This is why it's commonly used for road surfacing, and it makes it a great option for residential driveways.

DIG OUT AND PREP WORK

We take the preparation stage very seriously because it is crucial. A long-lasting result requires the right base and sub-base. This is also the most costly step in the process, which is why some businesses don't finish it to the highest standards. To make sure everything is done correctly and is long-lasting, we take our time on this phase.

TARMACADAM

After treating all areas with weed killer and forming the falls and cross falls properly, we can proceed with installing 50-70mm of 20mm tarmacadam binder courser and 25mm of 6mm tarmacadam wearing course as the finished surface.

DRYING TIME

We advise waiting at least 48 hours—ideally more like five days—before driving on tarmac. Respecting these drying periods is essential; otherwise, you risk having driveway problems very soon. After 12 hours, light foot traffic is acceptable on tarmac.
